A burglar in Brighton who caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage in order to access a till containing just £20 has been jailed.
Ricky Jones forced entry to Nine Rolls in Duke Street, Brighton, by smashing the glass front door.
He then snatched the till containing a small float and ran off.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 17 June, but Jones was swiftly identified through CCTV enquiries, leading to his arrest.
The 44-year-old, of no fixed address, was charged with burglary and remanded into custody.
He appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 19 June, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment.
However, the offence activated a suspended sentence for a previous conviction, taking Jones’ total prison term to 14 months.
He was also fined £239, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
