Six firefighters from East Grinstead Fire Station are preparing to take on a demanding endurance challenge as they gear up for the East Grinstead Triathlon on 10 May, all in support of the Fire Fighters Charity.
Mark Turner, Michael Gaunt, Jack Osborne, Kevin Wadey, Damian Hodgson and Adrian Sadler will tackle the event wearing full fire kit, adding an extra layer of difficulty to the already tough course. Their challenge will see them swim in water rescue dry suits, cycle while carrying breathing apparatus, and run with a 90kg training dummy secured to a stretcher.
The team hopes their efforts will help raise awareness and vital funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports serving and retired members of the UK’s fire services, as well as their families.
Firefighter Mark Turner said: “We’re really excited to take part in the East Grinstead Triathlon and raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.
“The charity provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service.
“We’ve set ourselves a fundraising target of £500 and would be grateful for any support people are able to give.”
The crew is encouraging members of the public to get behind their efforts and contribute if they can.
