Four people have been escorted safely back to Littlehampton Marina by the RNLI after their boat broke down near Bognor Regis.
Crews were tasked on Saturday at around 7pm to check on the welfare of those on board the vessel.
The occupants were able to get the boat moving again, but crews escorted them back to Littlehampton Marina to make sure they returned safely.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of being prepared before heading out on the water, especially during the summer months when more people take to the coast.
Anyone using a boat is advised to check the weather and tide times before leaving, make sure the vessel is in good working order, and carry enough fuel for the journey.
It is also important to have a reliable way of calling for help, such as a VHF radio or a fully charged mobile phone in a waterproof pouch.
Everyone on board should wear a suitable lifejacket or buoyancy aid, and someone on shore should know where you are going and when you expect to return.
Boaters should also carry basic safety equipment, including flares or other distress signals, a first aid kit, a torch, spare warm clothing and drinking water.
Engine problems can happen quickly at sea, and conditions can change without warning. Even a short trip can become dangerous if a vessel loses power, drifts, or cannot get back to harbour safely.
In an emergency at sea or on the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
