Chichester Festival Theatre is launching a new summer academy aimed at inspiring the next generation of backstage talent.
The Technical Summer Academy will run over five days from August 24th to the 28th, offering a hands-on introduction to the wide range of roles that bring theatre productions to life.
The course is open to 12 young creatives aged between 18 and 30, with organisers keen to attract people from all backgrounds, regardless of experience. Participants will explore key technical areas including lighting, sound, projection and stagecraft, working alongside experienced professionals.
The theatre says the programme has been designed to give a rare behind-the-scenes insight into the industry, helping people understand the technical skills and teamwork required to deliver live performances.
Organisers emphasise that the academy is open to anyone with an interest in theatre, whether they are completely new to technical work or already have some experience. Staff and practitioners will tailor the week to suit those taking part, ensuring the course is accessible, supportive and inspiring.
Chichester Festival Theatre, known for its high-quality productions and strong reputation within the industry, says it is the ideal setting for the initiative, offering participants the chance to learn in a working theatre environment.
The academy is expected to provide valuable experience, build confidence and potentially open doors for those considering a career in technical theatre, as the venue continues its commitment to developing future talent.
