Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is encouraging people to consider volunteering as police officers, as part of a drive to boost its Special Constabulary.
The force is hosting a recruitment event on Saturday 11 April at its Police Training Headquarters in Netley, Southampton. Running from 10am to midday, the session is designed to give potential recruits an insight into the role and what it involves.
The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteer officers who support frontline policing and play a key role in keeping communities safe. Those who join receive full training and hold the same powers as regular police officers.
The force says it is looking for people from all backgrounds who can remain calm under pressure, think quickly, solve problems and work effectively as part of a team. It adds that many of the skills needed can come from everyday life, work or volunteering experience.
Special Superintendent Russell Morrison, Special Constabulary Lead, said: “Becoming a Special Constable is more than volunteering, it’s about serving your community, developing new skills, and joining a team that truly values your contribution. It’s a chance to make a real difference.
“If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, come along and explore it for yourself. There’s no pressure, just an opportunity to meet the team, ask questions, and see whether this could be the next step on your journey.”
Anyone interested is encouraged to register in advance.
