A man in his twenties has died following a single-vehicle collision near a West Sussex village.

Emergency services were called to the B2139 Storrington Road, just south of Thakeham, at around 4pm on Sunday, 2 August.

The driver, who was from Thakeham, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, but later died.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers.

Sussex Police said its thoughts remained with the man’s family at what it described as a difficult time.

Storrington Road was closed for several hours while emergency services responded and specialist collision investigators examined the scene.

The road has since reopened, but an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains under way.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.

Officers would also like to hear from motorists or residents who may have relevant dashcam, CCTV or mobile-phone footage.

Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or by calling 101 and quoting Operation Kale.
