Police are appealing for information after officers arrested two people following reports of a suspected firearm in a residential area of Worthing.
Sussex Police say they were called to Argyll Mews at around 6 pm on Wednesday evening, the 25th of February, after receiving a report of a man believed to be in possession of a firearm outside a property.
Officers attended the scene and arrested a 55-year-old man from Worthing on suspicion of being in possession of an unlawfully held firearm. A 16-year-old boy, also from Worthing, was arrested on suspicion of the same offence. Both remain in police custody while enquiries continue.
Police say that the investigation is still at an early stage and are keen to build a clear picture of what happened in the area at the time of the incident.
Detective Constable Sophie Chaplain, from Worthing CID, said officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in or around Argyll Mews at around six o’clock on Wednesday evening.
She said officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area, as well as residents or motorists who may have relevant CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage from around that time.
DC Chaplain said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Argyll Mews area of Worthing at around 6pm on Wednesday, 25 February, who may have seen anything suspicious.
“In particular, we would ask residents and motorists with CCTV, doorbell footage or dash cam recordings from the area at that time to check their footage and contact us if they have anything that could assist our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police either online or by calling 101, quoting reference number 47260038168.
