Extra police patrols are taking place in Eastbourne during the town’s famous tennis open.
Officers say the increased patrols are part of Project Servator, a policing tactic designed to help keep communities safe and disrupt potential criminal activity.
The operation uses specially trained officers, along with a range of other resources, to spot the signs that someone may be planning or preparing to commit a crime.
Police say the public also have an important role to play during major events, with thousands of people expected in the town while the tournament is taking place.
People attending the tennis, or visiting the surrounding area, are being asked to remain alert and report anything that does not feel right.
Officers say anyone who notices suspicious behaviour, sees something unusual, or hears anything concerning, should report it to police straight away.
They are also reminding people not to assume someone else has already made a report.
Project Servator patrols can happen at any time and in any location, and are designed to be unpredictable.
Police say the aim is not only to reassure the public, but also to make it harder for anyone intent on committing crime to operate.
The force says information from members of the public can be vital in helping officers respond quickly and keep people safe.
Anyone with concerns should speak to officers at the time or contact police through the usual reporting channels.
In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, people should always dial 999.
