Fire crews are tackling a house fire near Wartling after a bonfire is believed to have got out of control.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 9.48am on Friday, 26 June 2026, following reports of a large smoke plume in the Boreham Street area.
By 10.15am, four fire engines, a water carrier and officers were at the scene.
The fire service said it appeared a bonfire had spread and was affecting a home.
People are being asked to avoid the area while emergency crews continue their work.
Residents living nearby have also been advised to keep doors and windows closed until the smoke has cleared.
In an update at 10.45am, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews were continuing to use hose reel and main jets, supported by the water carrier, to tackle the house fire.
Nearby power lines have also been affected by the incident.
The fire comes as East Sussex continues to experience very hot weather, with warnings in place across the county.
Emergency services have been urging people to take extra care during the extreme heat and avoid lighting fires or barbecues in areas where flames could quickly spread.
There are no reports at this stage of any injuries.
