The South of England remains in the grip of very hot weather, with heat warnings continuing across Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex.

The Met Office says hot and humid conditions are still affecting much of England, with daytime temperatures widely above 30 degrees in inland areas and warm nights adding to the pressure on people, transport and public services.

Across the V2 Radio area, conditions vary between the coast and inland towns, but the heat is still being felt widely.

In Portsmouth, temperatures are around 25 degrees this afternoon, with breezy and very warm conditions expected to continue.

Petersfield is among the hotter spots, with temperatures around 30 degrees and highs of about 31 degrees possible. The Met Office says there is a risk of dehydration and heatstroke for anyone doing strenuous activity outdoors.

In Selsey, conditions are slightly cooler because of the coast, with temperatures around 27 to 28 degrees this afternoon.

Chichester is also warm, with temperatures around 28 to 29 degrees, while nearby Slindon is expected to remain in the mid to high twenties.

Bognor Regis is seeing temperatures around 27 degrees, with Littlehampton expected to reach around 26 to 27 degrees this afternoon.

Worthing is slightly cooler, with temperatures around 23 to 26 degrees, but still very warm for coastal areas.

Further east, Brighton and the wider East Sussex coast are seeing temperatures in the mid to high twenties.

Uckfield is one of the warmest places in East Sussex, with temperatures around 30 degrees this afternoon.

Eastbourne is cooler by comparison, with temperatures around 20 to 22 degrees, although warm and humid conditions remain a concern.

People are being urged to drink plenty of water, avoid the strongest sun between 11am and 3pm, close curtains in rooms facing the sun and check on vulnerable neighbours, relatives and friends.

Anyone travelling is being advised to check before setting off, while those heading to the coast should take care around water and enter gradually to reduce the risk of cold-water shock.

Anyone worried about their health should contact NHS 111.
