UKHarvest has been recognised for its work supporting communities across West Sussex after winning a major award at the Chichester Chamber of Commerce, Chichester and Bognor Business Awards.
The charity was named winner of the Outstanding Contribution to the Community award at this year’s event, organised by Chichester Chamber of Commerce.
It follows a remarkable year for UKHarvest, which has rescued more than 444 tonnes of food and delivered 299 Community Food Hubs.
The awards ceremony was held at the Avisford Hotel in Fontwell and welcomed well over 150 guests from businesses, charities and independent organisations across the Chichester and Bognor region. The event celebrated the work, dedication and achievements of chamber members across a wide range of sectors.
The Sussex Snowdrop Trust was also highly commended for its contribution to the community, in recognition of the support it provides to sick children and their families.
Paul Rolfe, Board of Directors for the Chichester Chamber of Commerce commended UKHarvest, sharing “Huge congratulations to all at UKHarvest. Truly well-deserved and well done. We are really proud to have you in the Chamber.”
Speaking on behalf of UKHarvest, Joanna Lodge, Communications and Fundraising Manager who attended the event was delighted with the charity’s success. “Supporting the community is at the heart of everything we do at UKHarvest. We want to ensure that as much surplus food as possible is given to those in need and those wishing to reduce food waste. To receive such an accolade as Outstanding Contribution to the Community means so much to the team at UKHarvest but the award must go to our volunteers, without whom we would not be able to do the work we do. The Chamber is such a supportive champion of UKHarvest and we sit among some truly wonderful business among the membership. Thank you to each and every one of them for supporting UKHarvest to support the community.”
UKHarvest continues to run Community Food Hubs, Grub Club and Community Grub Club across Chichester and West Sussex, while also providing free food education and donating fresh and ambient food to nearly 30 charities across the South.
