A potentially life-saving water safety roadshow is visiting Littlehampton as part of a nationwide tour of coastal communities.
The RNLI and Scania UK’s Float to Live Roadshow will be based on Sea Road from Wednesday, 22 July, until Monday, 27 July.
The interactive experience is open to people of all ages and aims to teach visitors what to do if they unexpectedly find themselves struggling in cold water.
The RNLI’s Float to Live advice encourages people to resist the instinct to panic or swim immediately. Instead, they should tilt their head back, relax and try to float until the effects of cold-water shock begin to pass.
Following the technique can improve a person’s chances of survival while they wait to be rescued or until they are able to reach safety.
Visitors will also be able to learn more about staying safe around the coast, rivers, harbours and other open-water locations.
RNLI representatives will be available throughout the roadshow to answer questions about water safety, coastal rescues and the Float to Live campaign.
The specially branded Scania truck and trailer is touring the UK during the busy summer season to raise awareness of the dangers posed by open water.
Arun District Council is supporting the Littlehampton visit as part of its work to promote coastal safety and encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the district’s coastline responsibly.
The roadshow is being delivered through a partnership between the RNLI, Scania UK and the council, with Scania providing the campaign vehicle.
