Worthing Pride has been hailed a success after a colourful weekend of celebration, music and the LGBTQI+ community.
The annual LGBTQI+ festival returned to Steyne Gardens on Saturday, 4 July, with the main Pride event running from midday until late, followed by a Sunday garden party. Organisers described the event as a celebration of diversity, equality and inclusivity, with entertainment, food, drink, local stalls and a family-friendly atmosphere at the heart of the weekend.
Saturday began with the Pride parade, which set off from the promenade near the bottom of Heene Road at 11.15am. The route travelled along the seafront from opposite The Burlington Hotel towards Beach House Grounds, with a pause at Worthing Pier for a two-minute silence before continuing. The route was kept on the promenade rather than the road, with organisers encouraging people to take part or watch from the beach where possible.
The main stage at Steyne Gardens then brought a packed line-up of pop, dance, drag and queer talent. Saturday’s performers included Una Healy, DJ Sammy, Black Peppa, Sweet Female Attitude, Bones from RuPaul’s Drag Race, Homoparody, A-Z Absolute Britney, BollyQueer, Jaymi Hensley, Lady Gaga tribute Donna Marie, Osaro and Quentin Hartz.
The event continued on Sunday with more feel-good entertainment, including Phats & Small, Love Inc., Rozalla, Wildblood & Queene, UOKHUN, PolyGlamorous and Gary Scott.
Worthing Pride has grown into one of the town’s key summer events, bringing people together to celebrate the LGBTQI+ community while also supporting local good causes. The event is organised by Worthing Pride Ltd and raises funds for Worthing LGBTQi+ Support Network.
For many, the weekend was about more than entertainment. It was a visible reminder that Worthing is a place where people can come together, be themselves and celebrate love, identity and inclusion.
